Materials & Making
Nestward is built around pieces with a story — made by independent makers and artisan studios, many of them by hand. Here's what goes into the things we carry.
Handwoven Textiles
Many of our pillow covers are woven on hand and backstrap looms by artisan cooperatives in Nepal, Nagaland (India), and South Africa, using cotton and natural fibers like banana fiber. Because every piece is made by hand, small variations in pattern, color, and texture are part of its character.
Natural Baskets
Our wall baskets are woven by Tonga artisans in northern Zimbabwe from wild grasses, vines, and palm leaves dyed with tree bark. A single large basket can take around two weeks to complete, and no two patterns are exactly alike.
Acacia Wood
Our serving trays and salad bowls are made from acacia, a durable, fast-growing hardwood with a distinctive grain. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Cork
Our cork pieces are handmade in Portugal from upcycled, sustainably sourced cork — naturally lightweight, water-resistant, and biodegradable.
Linen
Our linen bedding is made from French flax and stonewashed for a soft, lived-in feel that improves with every wash.
Art Prints
Our art prints come from independent artists and are printed on heavyweight paper in standard frame sizes.
